Transcriptionists Profiles – Shekinah Evangelista
Archie: Welcome to The Transcriptionists Profiles, a series of interviews with people who are working as transcriptionists. My name is Archie, the author/administrator of Transcription Blog. Today, we have Shekinah Evangelista. Hello Shekinah, welcome to the interview. It’s nice to have you.
Shekinah Evangelista: Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Archie: First, please tell me what is your current designation being a transcriptionist in your company and where are you located?
Shekinah Evangelista: Oh yes, I am a senior MT at GlobalQuest BPO Specialists, Inc. It is located at Ortigas Center, Pasig City, Philippines.
Archie: How did you end up being a senior MT? How long have you been working as transcriptionist?
Shekinah Evangelista: Actually, I did not dream of becoming a transcriptionist. But based on my friends’ experience, I see that what I really want is a job wherein I would be able to use my journalistic skills, as well as flexibility (I can work in an office setting if I want to, and I can work at home if I want to without affecting team productivity despite location). It has been some four years now since I had been working as a transcriptionist.
Archie: If given a chance, do you like to work home based or office based? Why (briefly)?
Shekinah Evangelista: I also would like to try working at home because I had already tried working in an office. I think I am ready for a change of environment. What is more, my family needs me now more than ever. The chance that I see that will make me be near our home and still be able to work with the team is by doing work at home.
Archie: Given the type of transcription to work with, which one do you prefer: Medical, General (Business, podcasts, interviews), or Legal Transcription.
Shekinah Evangelista: Oh, of course, I prefer Medical Transcription.
Archie: Give one trait or quality to become effective or productive transcriptionist?
Shekinah Evangelista: For me, it is the motive and the determination to help out in the team. Because if that is what motivates a transcriptionist, he will do what he can to produce.
Archie: Lastly, what advice can you give to aspiring transcriptionist?
Shekinah Evangelista: Well, I should say that it is good to dream of rendering quality services – high productivity and high accuracy ratings. But let us remember also that we get memorable to our clients and our teammates not just for what we produce and the quality of our produce but HOW we produce it. Getting straight, anything that is produced through foul means, no matter how “good” the intention may be – to increase productivity, to ensure a high accuracy – will still produce foulness not only on our works but also on our name as well.
Archie: Thank you for your time today.
